Call for Papers
Young Scholars Program
The Mont Pelerin Society (MPS) continues an active program to engage younger members and
recruit new young scholars with the potential to become members in the future. Those efforts
include organizing Young Scholars Program sessions at the MPS 2027 Regional Meeting in Buenos
Aires, Argentina, for scholars aged 35 years or younger to present their research and engage with
scholars and members of the Society.
The MPS 2027 Regional Meeting, marking the 80th anniversary of Society’s founding, will focus on
A New Liberal Momentum? Lessons from Latin America to the World. At a moment when
several Latin American countries are revisiting the principles of liberty, free enterprise, and limited
government, the meeting will explore whether the region is witnessing the emergence of a new
liberal momentum—and the lessons it offers the world.
The Young Scholars Program Committee welcomes submissions on all topics related to the aims of
The Mont Pelerin Society. We encourage papers that engage with the meeting’s central theme and
examine contemporary or historical questions concerning liberty, free enterprise, limited
government, institutions, political economy, economic development, and the intellectual and cultural
foundations of a free society.
We particularly encourage research that brings Latin American experiences into conversation with
broader questions about liberalism and the future of free societies. Submissions may address
developments within Latin America, comparative experiences across countries or regions, or
theoretical and historical questions illuminated by the Latin American experience.
The Young Scholars Program is intended to be cross-disciplinary, welcoming high-quality research
in economics and other social sciences, as well as related disciplines appropriate to the Society’s
aims.
Young Scholars will be expected to participate fully in the meeting, engage in a colloquia-style
session exploring the Society’s purposes and history, and attend a special welcome reception
organized for them.
Young Scholars Program Sessions
MPS Young Scholars Program sessions will feature short presentations by selected young scholars,
followed by discussion and engagement with other participants in the session.
Proposals should represent new research of the type that one would present at a professional
association meeting in the appropriate discipline. Successful applicants will be expected to
participate actively in the Young Scholars Program and in the broader conference. Proposals will be evaluated based on:
- The importance and originality of the research question;
- The quality and clarity of the proposed approach;
- The contribution of the paper to the relevant scholarly literature;
- Its relevance to the theme of the MPS 2027 Regional Meeting;
- Its potential contribution to the broader intellectual objectives of The Mont Pelerin Society; and
- Its fit with the other papers selected for the MPS Young Scholars Program.
