Young Scholars Program

The Mont Pelerin Society continues its efforts to involve younger members and recruit young scholars with the potential to become members in the future. As part of that effort, the Society is organizing sessions at the 2026 Biennial Congress and General Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana (United States of America) for scholars aged 35 years or younger to present their research and engage with the society.

The young scholars committee will consider submissions on all topics related to the Society’s aims but is particularly interested in papers that address the meeting’s theme: 1776: Liberty In Conversation. We encourage submissions that explore the ideas that fueled the ‘Spirit of 1776’ and examine how the Declaration of Independence and Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations, both published in 1776, provided a foundation for future societies of free and responsible individuals.

The Young Scholars Program sessions will feature short presentations (15 minutes) by four young scholars in each session. The proposals should be NEW research of the style that one would present at a professional association meeting in the appropriate discipline. Young scholars will be expected to participate in the full conference and engage with the Young Scholars programming.

Proposals will be evaluated on the importance of the topic proposed, how it is addressed, how it fits within the conference program theme, and how it fits with other papers proposed by young scholars.

To propose a paper, please submit the following materials to the Young Scholars Program Committee at mps.youngscholars@ttu.edu no later than Friday, June 5, 2026:

  • A Presentation Title and Proposed Abstract of No More than 250 Words;
  • CV/Resume; and
  • Proof of Age for Eligibility.

Successful applicants will be notified and invited to participate by Friday, June 19, 2026. Completed drafts of the papers will be due no later than Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Participants in these sessions will benefit from a special reduced Young Scholars registration rate of USD 550.00. Partial travel scholarships will also be made available to Young Scholars Program participants. Applicants seeking a travel scholarship should make a request in their email application.
